Robin Skye was born in Chicago to parents who were avid patrons of the arts. Both her mother and father loved to sing around the house, and she grew up surrounded by the sounds of The Beatles and Greats in the Jazz and Big Band world. Early on, they recognized that Robin had a gift and a passion for music and hosted parties where she and her mother sang and played the Ukulele. She studied piano and flute at an early age and started studying voice in high school. Robin knew she loved to sing. A career in music was just a matter of time.
Majoring in theatre at Vassar, she held the lead in many productions. After graduation, Robin moved to NYC and started a band with some friends from school. They played some of NYC's most wellknown rock clubs including The Bitter End and Kenny's Castaways. During Robin's career, she covered the spectrum between New York City venues including the Great White Way, LA Nightclubs and major spots in a 51-city, 10-week tour for Columbia Artists Management. One of her proudest moments was when she sang the National Anthem to 31,000 Cubs fans in Chicago's Wrigley Field.
Robin's debut album, HOUSE OF LOVE, came to life at the insistence of her old friend and producer, George Petit, who also co-wrote several of the songs. Petit recognized that performing had left Robin no time to record her work. What followed was what Robin affectionately refers to as "death by email," (George sent her so many emails, she just finally said Yes!) She went into the studio with George and her other co-writer Randy Redd, put some early tunes together with some new ones and what emerged was an album that Robin says "definitely came from a place of love and a boatload of living."
Her creative essence is perhaps best captured by Director and Academy Award Nominated Screenwriter, Richard LaGravenese, "when Robin Skye sings, her voice is like honey, chocolate and sex all wrapped up in one. Coupled with her songwriting, you don't just get a song you get a story with an entire world of emotion; the history of a woman's heart and soul in every phrase. It's as if within every song, she's written a little movie with a beginning, middle and end. Robin can blow a hole through your own heart or lift you ten inches above ground. When she sings, it's the truth... naked and personal, yet touching what is true for us all. Her music wraps you up and carries you, long after the final note."
Robin has always, quietly, been committed to various worthwhile causes. In 2007, she helped fund the creation of AFTER THE STORM, a 501C3, non-profit organization that provides funding, management and event programming to community centers in New Orleans that are working with children and the arts. Since then, Robin has traveled extensively to New Orleans, most recently leading a series of workshops with Redd, helping develop a new generation of songwriters. She sits on the board of DREAMYARD PROJECT, an organization that transforms Bronx public schools and communities through the power of project-based arts learning. In addition, she co-founded THE INFRANGIBLE TRUST with Petit, whose purpose is to allow unknown artists in all areas of the arts to receive financial and managerial support in getting their art heard and seen by the rest of the world.
Robin Skye resides in NYC.
