Mar Creation presents "2010 Tri-Star Holiday Concert"
Yumi Kurosawa (Japanese kotos), MIKA (Brazilian piano), and Paula Jaakkola (Finnish songstress), all 3 ladies proud New Yorkers but musical citizens of the world and musical alchemists of cross-genres, will grace the Tri-State area, sharing stages that cap their mini-tour with a show at Scandinavia House on Saturday 12/11 at 3 p.m. Ms. Kurosawa, no stranger to NY audiences after appearing at Carnegie hall and on illustrious stages, is continuing the worlds she's shared with us on her '09 CD, Beginning of a Journey (16 tracks, available on CDBaby). MIKA's brand of Samba Jazz has grown from Japan to Brazil and Paris, solo and through the MIKA Samba Jazz Trio and MIKA Group, having played with the likes of Armando Marcal (Pat Metheny Group) and Ricardo Silveira (Herbie Mann) and studied with Amilton Godoy. She performed to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Japan-Brazil immigration in 2009. Paula Jaakkola now embarks upon on a solo career after a successful run with her band Kaiku (Finnish for "echo") that incorporated elements of the Finnish Epic Kalevala Tales: ".listening to something this beautiful, it's easy to believe that myths are rooted in truth." - Popmatters.com. Now her goal as a solo artist is to achieve complete artistic freedom of expression and inspiration. There may even be a surprise song featuring Yumi and Paula together in this series. Whatever the pairings, it's genre-blending magic.
